When Black and White Becomes Too Grey
The people of Berlin were, from my experience, incredibly kind and welcoming. They seem to have figured out a way to balance learning from the past, while at the same time not allowing themselves to forget the consequences of their somewhat recent past.
One tangible example of this intangible and possibly unprovable idea is just a five minute walk from the well known Brandenburg Gate. The name in itself is a no nonsense reminder of the evil done during WWII by the Nazi army. Named The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, but more commonly known as the Holocaust Memorial, this 4.7 acre plot of land is a recently completed memorial and reminder to all who see it and experience it of the terrible things that happened in our not so distant past.
See it big here.
