The Camel Driver

While traveling in Egypt I went on a sunset camel ride to see the Great Pyramids of Giza.  As some may know, it is technically illegal to be inside the pyramid park area after sundown.  This causes a problem for those who wish to see the sunset over the pyramids.  As anyone who has been to the Middle East may also know, in order to do something illegal without consequences, it usually just requires some baksheesh.  Such was the case with this tour. As I came to the guard gate at the pyramids, some of the money I had paid to the camel driver was handed over to the guard and we proceeded with no further difficulties.  I was slightly amused to watch as the camel driver and the guard put on a little bit of a show for me with the guard acting angry and then the camel driver saying he needed more money, but when I refused we passed on through with no problems.

This is a picture of the camel driver resting his camels before we arrived at the pyramids.  The horse on the right belongs to his supervisor, the more fluent English speaker of the two.

See it big here.
