Inside The Reichstag Dome

If you are planning a trip to Germany in the future I highly recommend Berlin.  This city is amazing and seems to have it all from a friendly people and a great night life to modern design and architecture, and, of course, probably one of the more interesting recent histories of any city in the world.  It is so amazing to see the remains of the Berlin Wall and to think that it has only been down since 1989.  Being in Berlin and seeing some of the very structures and areas that Hitler used to occupy is a surreal and exhilarating experience while also being chilling to think about.  This is the building that is responsible for a major turning point which allowed Hitler to take emergency control of the German army and eventually the entire country and most of the European continent.

After the Reichstag Building mysteriously caught fire in 1933, the Nazi party used the incident to bend the law and constitution to their will and gain the power which was later used to revoke the human rights and lives of so many.  The most recent remodel of the building added the addition of a glass dome at the top to resemble the original design, while at the same time make the building look more modern and allow the German people to, at any time the dome is open, look down and see the Parliamentary proceedings below.  This is a literal and figurative way to remind the parliament and the people that the governmental processes and policies should be open for the people to see.

See it big here.
